AMF Bowling Balls
The very first bowling ball made with polyurethane cover stock was produced in 1981. This material is what present day bowling balls are made of. The first bowling balls are made of wood, then rubber, then polyester.
Although it was the company Ebonite, that manufactured this polyurethane ball, they sold the rights to AMF. This ball was later on called AMF Angle. Ebonite though continued to make bowling balls for AMF.
This change in the coverstock material of bowling balls paved the way for a new nature of bowling. The new material allowed for a better grip on the ball by the wood surfaces of the lanes. The role of AMF thus reserved for itself a definite mark in the history of bowling balls.
